The vehicle displays one or several of the above-mentioned fault codes.
Fault codes are recorded in the engine control unit.
Engine Warning Lamp (MIL) is illuminated.
NOTE: Fault codes must not be accompanied by other fault codes.
NOTE: The above symptom occurs while the vehicle is moving.
NOTE: This technical bulletin also affects Opel Grandland X vehicles with EB2 A DTS engine.
|
Possible causes:
• Ignition coil.
• Greasing of the spark plugs.
|
Repair procedure:
• Read the fault codes recorded in the engine control unit using the diagnostic tool.
• Confirm that the fault codes mentioned in the symptoms field of this technical bulletin are recorded.
• Confirm that the symptoms mentioned in the symptom field of this technical bulletin are present.
• Clear the fault codes recorded in the engine control unit using the diagnostic tool.
• Start the engine and maintain a constant speed at 2500 rpm for 20 seconds.
• Carry out a second reading of fault codes in the engine control unit (ECU) with the diagnostic tool and check if the fault codes mentioned in the symptom field of this technical bulletin are registered again.
• If the fault codes are not recorded again, perform a spark plug cleaning process.
• If the fault codes are registered again:
• Clear the fault codes recorded in the engine control unit using the diagnostic tool.
• Reposition the ignition coils.
• Restart the engine and maintain a constant speed of 2500 RPM for 20 seconds.
• Replace the faulty ignition coil if the fault code follows the ignition coil.
• If the fault code does not change after repositioning the coils, proceed with the spark plug cleaning process.
On-road spark plug cleaning process (See image 1):
• Start the engine.
• Activate the following electrical consumers for 10 seconds with the engine at idle:
High beamlights.
Front and rear fog lights.
Heated rear window.
Set the heating/air conditioning unit to maximum airflow and the coldest temperature setting.
• Gradually accelerate in neutral gear until reaching 4000 RPM.
• Maintain the engine speed at 4000 RPM for 3 minutes.
• Return to idle and activate the following electrical consumers for 10 seconds:
High beamlights.
Front and rear fog lights.
Heated rear window.
Set the heating/air conditioning unit to maximum airflow and the coldest temperature setting.
• Engage first gear and perform three successive intermittent accelerations from 1000 to 5000 RPM over a duration of 3 minutes.
• Return to idle and activate the following electrical consumers for 10 seconds:
High beamlights.
Front and rear fog lights.
Heated rear window.
Stop the engine.
• Start the engine at ambient temperature.
• Activate the following electrical consumers:
High beamlights.
Front and rear fog lights.
Heated rear window.
Set the heating/air conditioning unit to maximum airflow and the coldest temperature setting.
• Perform a gradual speed increase over approximately 10 seconds, from idle to 4000 RPM, and maintain this speed for 3 seconds.
• Return to engine idle speed.
• Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds.
• Stop the engine.
